Quick answer

Cabinet painting, refinishing, and refacing in Houston

Cabinet painting is the right fit when the cabinet boxes, doors, and layout work but the finish does not. ColorUp prepares and sprays the existing cabinet system, then documents the approved scope, finish, and care terms.

What’s included

Everything from the first measurement to the final polish.

One written scope, one confirmed schedule, one team. If site conditions require a change, we pause and document it before added work proceeds.

01 / Prep

Doors off, surfaces sanded.

Every door, drawer, and panel removed and labelled. Boxes masked, plastic floor to ceiling. Surfaces sanded, degreased, and primed with a bonding undercoat designed for kitchen-grade wear.

02 / Spray

Three coats of Renner 2K.

Doors are sprayed in our Kingwood booth on horizontal racks, in a controlled spray environment. Three coats of Renner 2K Italian wood coatings, hand-leveled between coats. Boxes sprayed in place with the same lacquer.

03 / Install

Hung, aligned, handed off clearly.

Doors come back hung and adjusted to the approved scope. At handoff, we explain when to resume normal kitchen use and how to care for the selected finish while it continues to cure.

The coating

Renner Italia 2K. Industrial-grade.

The same two-component polyurethane lacquer used on European cabinet manufacturing lines. Not regular paint — a hardened sprayed finish made for kitchen cabinets. Harder than acrylic latex, more flexible than standard 1K lacquer, and resistant to oil mist, dishwater, and the small daily abrasions that wear paint thin over a decade.

Sprayed AAA airless on horizontal racks, three coats hand-leveled. The selected coating cures chemically, and the project handoff explains normal use, early care, and the full-cure period for that system.

Common questions

What people ask before they say yes.

We answer every one of these on the in-home consultation. Here’s the short version, so nothing’s a surprise.

How long am I without a working kitchen?

Cabinet boxes stay in place while doors and drawer fronts are tracked for shop finishing. Your written schedule identifies the in-home work, reinstallation, and any limits on kitchen use for the project.

Will the finish chip or peel like other painted cabinets?

Renner 2K is a chemical-cure polyurethane lacquer, not a wall paint. It’s built for daily kitchen use. We back every project with a written warranty — if the finish fails because of our process (chip, peel, adhesion failure under normal residential use), we make it right at no charge. The warranty does not cover UV / aging color shift, impact, or water damage; full terms in the signed proposal.

Do you do any color, or only the ones in the library?

Start with the finish library or share a manufacturer color reference. We confirm compatibility, sheen, sample approval, and any matching limitations before the color becomes part of the written scope.

What about the smell? Will the kitchen be livable?

Doors and drawer fronts are finished in our shop; cabinet boxes may be finished on site with containment and ventilation appropriate to the approved coating. We explain access and ventilation expectations before work begins.

Can you paint the cabinets without replacing my countertops?

Yes. When the existing countertops are staying, we protect them throughout preparation and installation. We also check the color, sheen, caulk lines, and nearby finishes together so the painted cabinets still feel intentional in the existing kitchen.
